Jimbo Bernardo is WMI's Math Star of The World
For being the top-scoring contestant from the Philippines, Jimbo Bernardo of 11-San Vitores was named Math Star of the World in the recent World Mathematics Invitational (WMI). Jimbo won the diamond award as well for landing among the top 3% of WMI’s contenders. Keean Tang of 11-Torres also won the diamond award, followed by Marvin Tan of 11-Perez with the gold (top 5%) award and Brian Dela Cruz of 12-Navarro with the silver (top 15%) award.
A total of 1,911 mathletes from Australia, Bulgaria, China, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Kyrgyzstan, Macau, Malaysia, Philippines, Russia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam participated in the 2020 WMI, which was held online on October 25, 2020.
The WMI is the first Taiwan-founded math competition that aims to popularize Mathematics education through its challenging annual musters. It recognizes the best-of-the-best mathletes worldwide through items that test logic, analogy, and problem-solving skills. The WMI virtual awarding ceremony was held on November 28, 2020.
