Mathlete Dion Ong earns slot on Olympiad-bound Team PH
As announced on the Go for Gold: Philippine IMO Team Facebook page, incoming Ateneo Senior High School Grade 12 student Dion Stephan Ong has been chosen to be one of the six mathletes who will represent the Philippines in the 60th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) to be held in the United Kingdom this July. Ong is the first Atenean in 11 years to earn a slot on the team that will represent the Philippines in the IMO.
Dion Stephan Ong has won dozens of gold, silver, and bronze medals in local and international math competitions since he was in Ateneo de Manila Grade School. He has been the recipient of several Youth Excellence in Science (YES) medals conferred annually by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) on students who win medals for the Philippines in international math and science competitions. In recent months, he has also won silver medals in a new field- computer programming- in national and international competitions.
The International Mathematics Olympiad will be held in Bath, United Kingdom, from July 14 – 22, 2019.
