Rivera wins ICAS-English “High Distinction” citation
Ateneo de Manila Senior High School student Ninna Rivera of 11-Perez won the University of New South Wales (UNSW) High Distinction Certificate for the 2019 International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS) – English. She will receive her certificate in March 2020. Two thousand sixty-four Filipino students participated in the 2019 ICAS – English, which was conducted on September 7, 2019. Of this number, only 49 won the “High Distinction” citation.
According to the Philippine Board of Studies website, the benefits of ICAS – English are “…to provide objective ranking of performance, encourage students to attain greater academic success, require students to think beyond the classroom and student success through medals and certificates.”
The same article on the website adds that “…ICAS-English assesses reading and language skills in a range of contexts,” and that the questions “…require students to locate, identify, interpret, infer and synthesize information in and about texts.”
Ninna Rivera is also a mathlete. Last November, she earned a silver medal award for the Philippines during the Heat Round of the Thailand International Mathematical Olympiad (TIMO) 2019.
