THREE ASHS STUDENTS WIN 6 MEDALS FOR PH AT SINGAPORE MATH COMPETITION
Representing the Philippines, three mathletes who are now enrolled at the Ateneo Senior High School (ASHS) won a total of six medals for the country at the 2017 International Mathematics Open for Young Achievers (IMOYA) held in Singapore from September 1-4, 2017. Alison Chloe Tan of STEM/11-San Vitores won two medals: a gold medal in the individual competition and a bronze medal in the team competition. Similarly, Andre Cayago of GA/11-Gonzaga also won two medals: a bronze medal in the individual competition and a silver medal in the team competition. Last but not least, Justin Tan of STEM/11-Realino also won two medals- a silver medal for the team competition and a bronze medal for the individual competition.
More than 2,200 students from 10 countries and regions participated in IMOYA 2017. According to Rappler, a total of 273 medals were won by the Philippines' math wizards at IMOYA: 32 golds, 75 silvers, and 166 bronzes. The countries that participated were China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Iran, Macau, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, and Thailand.
Alison, Andre, and Justin are all transferees who spent their Junior High School years in other schools. Alison came from Tarlac Living Faith Academy while Andre came from Dasmariñas National High School. Justin attended Quezon City Science High School.
