Ateneo JHS/SHS chess team is PAYA back to back champion!

Consisting of five players from the Ateneo Senior High School (ASHS) and one player from the Ateneo Junior High School (AJHS), Ateneo de Manila emerged as back to back champion of the Philippine Athletic Youth Association (PAYA) chess tournament on Monday, August 29 2016. Team Ateneo defeated chess wizards from De La Salle Zobel (DLSZ), La Salle Greenhills (LSGH), Lourdes School Mandaluyong (LSM), Colegio San Agustin (CSA), Xavier, and Claret School of Quezon City (CSQC). The stats of the ASHS and AJHS chess wizards are as follows:

Board 1: Haince De Leon (12-B): ¾, silver medalist
Board 2: Michael Olladas (11-Borgia): 2.5/3, no loss  
Board 3: Elijah Pilien (9-Isore): 4.5/5, no loss, gold medalist
Board 4: Kyle Bigcas (12-F): 6/6, perfect, gold medalist  
Board 5: Jivie De Veyra (11-Brebeuf): 3/3, perfect, gold medalist
Board 6: Rafael De Guzman (11-Mayer): 3/3, perfect, silver medalist  

The games were held in the La Salle Greenhills campus on July 30-31 and August 28-29, 2016.
