Miggy Bautista joins Philippine National Fencing Team roster
In April and May 2018, incoming Grade 12 student Jian Miguel “Miggy” Bautista added a bronze and a gold to his growing collection of medals won in various national and international fencing competitions.
Last April 21, Miggy represented the Philippines and won a bronze medal (ranking 3rd out of more than 40 epee fencers) in the U17 division of the National Swiss Cadet Competition held in Fribourg, Switzerland.
Last May 6, he won a gold medal in the individual juniors epee competition of the Philippine National Junior and Cadet Fencing Championship, which was held in the PSC Fencing Hall of Ultra in Pasig City.
With these and many other medals to his name, it came as no surprise when Miggy officially became a member of the Philippine National Fencing Team earlier this month, as stated in a certification issued by the Philippine Sports Commission on May 9, 2018. Todate, he is the only Atenean on the team.
Miggy has been winning medals in fencing since he was a student at the Ateneo Junior High School.
