Mik Balce is 18U and 16U singles champ of 1st Philta tennis tourney
Ateneo de Manila Senior High School student Manuel “Mik” Balce III of 11-Borgia (ABM strand) won two titles in the 1st Philta Presidents Cup Age Group Tennis Championships last Sunday, 10 July 2016: the 18U boys singles title and the 16U boys singles title. Mik beat 31 competitors from all over the country (and two players from Qatar) in each of the two age divisions. The Group 1 tournament was held at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center on July 2,3,6,9 and 10, 2016.
Mik Balce is one of the Ateneo de Manila’s exemplary student-athletes. At the Ateneo High School’s annual Recognition Day ceremony last February 26, Mik was one of only 28 students out of more than 2,400 to receive a medal for distinguished individual achievement. His award was in recognition for the seven national lawn tennis championships he won from March 2015 to December 2015. At the Ateneo Junior High School Closing Ceremony held last March 30 2016, Mik was one of only three students to receive the St. Jean de Brebeuf award for being an exemplary student athlete.
