Team Ateneo B is ISTA lawn tennis Division 2 champion
Consisting of lawn tennis players from the Ateneo Senior High School (ASHS) and Ateneo Junior High School (AJHS), Ateneo Team B emerged as Division 2 champion of the Inter School Tennis Association (ISTA) tournament last February 10, 2018 at the Colegio San Agustin Tennis Courts in Makati City. Ateneo Team B consists of MJ Ducut (11-Bellarmine), Frank Septin (La Storta/ 9-Favre), Anton Relucio (11-Wright), Javier Bolong (La Storta/10- Garnier) and Rafael Gutierrez (11-Borgia).
ISTA Division 2 is a team tennis event similar to division 1, with a format that consists of three singles matches and two doubles matches. The only difference with division 1 is that division 2 players can’t be in the top 20 of any lawn tennis age group currently or in the past.
En route to winning the ISTA Division 2 title, Ateneo B notched wins against International School Manila (3-2), British School of Manila (5-0), La Salle Greenhills (5-0), Xavier (3-2), Brent (5-0), Faith Academy (5-0), and Southridge (5-0).
MJ Ducut played first singles, Frank Septin played second singles, and Anton Relucio handled 3rd singles. Ducut & Septin played first doubles while Bolong & Gutierrez played second doubles.
The 2018 ISTA season marks the first time in many years where Ateneo de Manila won both Dvision 1 and Division 2 titles.
