AMBER Lab wins OpenGov Asia’s Recognition of Excellence Award
The Ateneo MediXServe Blockchain Education and Research Laboratory (AMBER Lab) has received the Recognition of Excellence Award by OpenGov Asia. The award was presented to Mr. Christian Pulmano, Head of the Blockchain EMR Development and faculty of the Department of Information Systems and Computer Science, at the Philippine OpenGov Leadership Forum on April 25.
In its official statement, OpenGov Asia—a content platform bureau focusing on ICT-related knowledge and reports between governments—lauded AMBER Lab for its “innovative and disruptive use of technology in the public sector through optimization of government processes” resulting in citizen-centric services.
Launched in August 2018, AMBER Lab offers a ground breaking approach to using blockchain technology in transforming and digitalizing government processes, increasing operational efficiencies to help build better public services. It is borne out of a collaboration between Ateneo de Manila University and MediXServe. As a think tank and advanced research center, AMBER Lab taps into the potential of blockchain to help a range of stakeholders.

“The core focus of AMBER Lab includes research, incubation, community engagement and education advancement in the areas of social, health and wellness, government, financial institutions, agriculture and education. This is a great initiative to not only develop a widespread usage of blockchain technologies in Philippines but also other developing countries,” says Dr. Maria Regina Justina E. Estuar, director of AMBER Lab.

“Members will be able to learn more about these technologies while also creating a platform to reform the utilization of IT. Simultaneously, AMBER Lab has the potential to shape Philippines as one of the leading countries in Blockchain technologies.”
AMBER Lab is housed at the School of Science and Engineering.
