The IJMO attracted young math and science students from Azerbaijan, Cambodia, Canada, China, China Hong Kong, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Mexico, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam.

Only Singapore and Asian Schools Math Olympiad (SASMO) and American Mathematics Olympiad (AMO) gold and silver awardees from participating countries are eligible to join the IJMO, which aims to provide an Asian platform for students to interact and compete against worthy opponents. IJMO also empowers students with deep conceptual understanding and logical thinking skills beyond their grade level, allowing them to better apply much higher-level logical and analytical skills to solve challenging Math Olympiad problems.
