Social and Environmental Protection
With the interplay of government, business, and political processes, policies to protect and empower the most marginalized members of society are likewise crucial to prevent the inter-generational transmission of poverty and the protection of the environment for future generations.
This program seeks to emphasize the importance of investments in human capital (notably in health and education) and how these types of investments contribute to a more inclusive society. Without such initial investments, economic growth and job creation could ultimately become unsustainable as weak human capital constitutes a poor foundation for economic progress and development. It also examines the different mechanisms and policies that will ensure that citizens are protected from shocks and empowered to recover. Some of the themes included in this program are:
- Education Reforms
- Politics and Conditional Cash Transfer Programs
- Spatial Disparities and Poverty
- Housing Reforms
- Multi-disciplinary Research on the Anti-Drug Campaigns in the Philippines: Effectiveness and Sustainability
- Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction and Management
- Clean Energy Living Laboratories (CELLs)
- Advancing Tobacco Taxation in Southeast Asia (ATT-SEA)
