Business and Government
The relationship between government and business has always been complex. The business sector needs government to create laws, regulations, infrastructure, and guidelines that will facilitate the smooth functioning of business in society. The government, on the other hand, relies on the business sector to drive economic growth and create jobs for its citizens. At the same time, both sectors need institutions to function well to ensure the efficient delivery of public goods and services and a type of governance devoid of corruption and political instability to strengthen investor confidence. The program explores the different factors that affect the interplay of this relationship. It will explore policies that promote fair competition and facilitate the creation of more and better-compensated jobs, which are crucial to bringing about a truly inclusive economy. The Center delves into concrete channels through which competitiveness could be further advanced, including in specific sectors such as the maritime economy, extractive industries, energy, agriculture, and manufacturing. In the next three years, the Center intends to work on the following topics:
- Conglomerates and Inclusive Growth
- Blue Economy and the Maritime Sector Agenda
- Mining and National Security
- Political Economy of Tax Reforms
- Judicial Reforms for Business and Economic Efficiency: Untangling Business and Land Assets in the Judicial System
