MARTIN, Nico Robert D.

Atty. Nico Robert R. Martin obtained his Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration from the University of the Philippines in 2010. He received his Juris Doctor Degree from the Ateneo de Manila University - School of Law in 2014, and was admitted to the Philippine Bar the following year. 
After passing the bar examinations, Atty. Martin started his career as a law clerk at the Mindanao Station of the Court of Appeals in Cagayan De Oro City at the Office of Associate Justice Maria Filomena D. Singh. In less than a year, he was promoted as the Judicial Staff Head of the Office of Justice Singh where he exercised supervision and oversight functions over the Office Justice Singh. While performing his duties in the Court of Appeals, Atty. Martin also taught law at the Xavier University – Ateneo De Cagayan. 
In 2017, after a two-year stint at the Mindanao Station of the Court of Appeals, Atty. Martin was re-assigned to the Main Station of the Court of Appeals in Manila. Aside from drafting decisions and resolutions on complex legal matters, Atty. Martin was also tasked by the Court of Appeals, as the Chairperson of the Technical Working Group on Training and Capacity Building of the Court of Appeals Gender and Focal Point Committee, to spearhead the Gender Sensitivity Training of all its employees. He also actively assisted the Court’s Committee on Continuing Judicial Education in facilitating the training of the Justices and Court Attorneys of the Court of Appeals to keep them abreast with legal developments. 
Atty. Martin took courses in 2017, as a fellow, at the International Academy for Arbitration Law in Paris, France; and in 2019, at the Hague Academy of International Law. 
Atty. Martin is a Special Lecturer and Legal Consultant at the Institute of Government and Law Reform of the University of the Philippines Law Center. He is also a Professorial Lecturer in a number of law schools all over the country, including his alma mater, the Ateneo De Manila University – School of Law. Among the subjects that Atty. Martin teaches are Legal Research and Writing, Constitutional Law, and Legal and Judicial Ethics. 
Atty. Martin is a published author, having published numerous academic articles in the Philippine Law Journal, the Ateneo Law Journal, and the Court of Appeals Journal on topics ranging from Constitutional Law, Criminal Law, and Remedial Law. 
In February 2021, Atty. Martin was appointed by the Supreme Court as the first Deputy General Counsel of the Judicial Integrity Board, a body created by the Supreme Court to promote integrity and curb corruption in the Judiciary.
