o MAGIS Programs in Math and English
The Multi-Dimensional Ateneo Gifted Intervention Scheme in Mathematics (MAGIS-Math) Program provides a different curriculum for students identified as talented in Mathematics: first, in content —There is an in-depth treatment of basic content, extension of basic content, inclusion of topics not taken in the regular course; second, in process — There is an emphasis on reasoning and logical thinking, encouragement of generalizations and abstractions; third, in pace — The regular curriculum is covered at a faster pace and extra time is spent on differentiated activities and enrichment topics.
The Multi-Dimensional Ateneo Gifted Intervention Scheme in Communication Arts (MAGIS-Com Arts) is offered to those who are gifted in English. Although the MAGIS curriculum follows basically the same regular English class curriculum, the offerings differ in process, pacing and content assessment. More enrichment activities and assessment are given to the MAGIS students.
o LEAP
RATIONALE :
Students who do not perform well academically with failing marks (74 and below) and/or marginal marks (75-79) in the different subjects need help and guidance in basic skills development. The school provides these students with the opportunity for corrective measures and, most importantly, the building and strengthening of basic skills. LEAP is designed to provide temporary assistance to the students. Its long-term objective is to train the students to eventually work independently.
DEFINITION :
For our own purposes, Learning Assistance Program (LEAP) is defined as the supervision, support and intervention given to students who need strengthening of basic skills in any academic subject covered by the program.
GENERAL GUIDELINES :
Grade 1 to Grade 6 students may participate in this program following these guidelines.
A. SELECTION OF LEAP STUDENTS
Class/Subject Teacher identifies students who qualify for LEAP.
1. Students who were deliberated on the previous year due to marginal and/or failing mark(s).
2. Students who are on waiver status the previous year are automatically recommended for LEAP the following year by the GLC.
3. Students who obtained a marginal or failing mark at the middle or at the end of the quarter.
4. The subject teacher/class teacher recommends students for LEAP to the GLC. Upon approval by the GLC, form letters from the AHAA’s office are sent to the parents of the students.
5. Parents may also make a written request for their son to attend LEAP sessions.
If the student qualifies for the program, the GLC may grant the request.
6. A student may participate in the LEAP only for two series of 20 hours in the same subject upon the recommendation of the teachers concerned. No student may avail of more than two-20 hour LEAP sessions in the same subject.
B. SELECTION OF LEAP TEACHERS
1. The teacher should have mastery of the subject matter.
2. He/She should have experience in teaching the subject matter. However, teachers with enough academic background may be tapped by the GLC to handle sessions in a particular subject only when there is a need of more LEAP teachers.
3. He/She should have completed at least one year of teaching in the AGS.
4. If a newly-hired teacher, he/she should have had previous teaching experience in other schools and should have competed two or three quarters of residency.
5. GLCs may consult SACs/ACs for possible LEAP teachers.
6. The LEAP teacher should not be the class/subject teacher of the student-LEAPER.
7. Joining the corps of LEAP teachers is voluntary, upon the recommendation of the GLC and the approval of the AHAAs.
C. INSTRUCTION FOR LEAP TEACHER
The LEAP teacher is expected to…
1. Inform the parents and the students about the LEAP schedule. When LEAP sessions are cancelled, he/she must inform the parents and students about the cancellation.
2. Ensure that LEAP time starts promptly.

- LEAP teacher submits an original copy of the report to the GLC.
- GLC signs Form and submits to AHAA.
