The Ateneo Debaters won the first ever KAPP Cup Debate Competition, and was represented by Tres Yap (12B), Drico Ramiro (10A), and Nicky Solis (10B). In the Grand Finals, the team battled against Meridian International Learning Experience, an international school in Metro Manila. Ateneo High School debated the Affirmative Side of the motion, “This house would require politicians and their families to use public utilities (transportation, education, healthcare, etc.)”. The team won on a unanimous 5-0 decision before judges from the UP Diliman Debate Society.

Tres Yap was ranked as the Best Speaker of the Tournament, while Drico Ramiro was awarded as the Best Speaker of the Finals.

Moreover, in spite of not sending other students to compete in other competitions due to majority of the team competing in another debate competition from January 24-25, Team AHS placed as the 2nd Runner Up overall in the entire Kapp Cup Competition. Their participation, plus points they earned from emerging as the champions of the debate competition, garnered the third highest total.

The team has been invited back to join the 2nd KAPP Cup Competition in 2016 which promises to be bigger and more competitive than the first.

The head coach of the team is Mr. Mahar Abrera Mangahas, while the moderator of the team is Mrs. Czari Oliveros-Manlapaz of the English Subject Area. During the competition, the team was accompanied by Henry Fernando and Isaac Lee of the coaching staff.
